Not-so-Shakin' Shakers

We spent yesterday morning at nearby Shaker Village with my parents and really enjoyed ourselves. John enjoyed the animals, walking around, and even sat quietly through a history and singing performance that lasted 20 minutes. We always knew he was above average. ;)

The village was beautiful and simple, and learning little bits about their culture with the visiting septuagenarians was fun. We're not sure how they made much of an impact since they were strict celibates!

Picture Post

"Da-dee" (Please don't say the word "doggy" around our child. He little language skills can't handle how similar it is to "Daddy" and now we can't seem to break him of it!) We read this book at least ten times as day.

He really wants to touch the camera!

If this picture had a soundtrack, it would sound something like this: "Gol-co! Gol-cu! Gol-co!" He is obsessed and wakes up saying that or "Ah-der!"

An Insult

Last night, my husband got too much hand lotion and I suggested he rub the extra on my feet. He willingly did, but afterward he called them hobbit feet!

I don't see the resemblance. Do you?

Warning: Do not believe a word my sister might say about my feet either.

Disclosure: I have been known to need a pumice stone now and then.

Grateful

Moving makes you grateful in ways you never expect. There's nothing like starting over and reorienting your life to make you remember things of old (and new) that you never really appreciated.
  • Working with movers who willing move boxes from one room to another and insist that you let them do the work.
  • Finding a grocery store right around the corner that sells what we eat, and is much cheaper than Harris Teeter.
  • Having a public library five minutes down the road with friendly staff and great children's programs.
  • Being invited to someone's house for a meal after you've just met them.
  • Watching old movies you first watched with people you love and know you well.
  • Calling maintenance to come fix the spattering kitchen faucet and they do in 24 hours.
  • Getting a FB friend request from a new acquaintance.
  • Having a husband who drives all over town looking for an Asian market so you can have the authentic egg noodles the recipe calls for.
  • Receiving a text message from your sister saying we were missed at our nephew's 3rd birthday party.
  • Meeting other Tarheel fans (or non-UK fans).
  • Getting your new driver's license in less than 20 minutes.
  • Taking John to the nearby pool for a quick morning dip.
  • Catching up with old friends (via phone or email) who want to know how things are going.
  • Feeling like you're not the only one when people share what it was like adjusting to a new place.
I wish I had recorded more of these occurrences as they happened, because there are many more.

Romans 8:32
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

This serves as your formal notice

It's no longer cool to start a blog, so I start this blog with hopes of keeping you informed and maybe even sometimes entertained at the going-ons of our family, my mind, and life in Lexington.

I'm off to the grocery store...and to reclaim the trash a certain 16-month old has taken from the room.

Love, Sarah Jo
